PURPOSE OF PROPHECY/PROPHECY IS A GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT


For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy. Rev. 19:10Prophecy is declaring or expressing by the power of the Holy Spiritthe heart or mind of God on a particular subject or a given situationto build up, encourage and to bring comfort.The purpose of prophecy is to share God's mind on a given subject,situation or circumstances.But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification, exhortation andconsolation. I Cor. 14:3RESTORATIONProphecy in this context reveals to us the Father's heart, His lovingconcern for us by giving us a glimpse of His perspective for ourlives.ENCOURAGEMENTWhen God uses someone to speak to a specific situation it gives usencouragement to know that no matter what is happening around us Godis aware.EDIFICATIONIt build us up strengthen our relationship as it reveals God ispresent with us.COMFORTA word at the right time eases the pain of hurtful circumstances,brings refreshing and releases joy.PRAYER AGENDAGod's will is expressed giving us an agenda to pray His will be doneon earth as it is in heaven. Giving us information we had no way ofknowing.EVANGELISTIC TOOLProphecy reveals the secrets of men's hearts causing repentance.Prophecy can also bring correction, adjustment, warning, direction,vision, guidance, confirmation, insight into counseling situations,releases a spirit of thanksgiving and praise vital to spiritualwarfare and changes the atmosphere opening the door for the Holyspirit to become manifest in our midst.PROPHECY IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR RELATIONSHIPWHO MAY PROPHESY?Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especiallythat you may prophesy. I Cor. 14:1But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for thecommon good. I Cor. 12:7For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and beexhorted. I Cor. 14:32Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that youwould prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies that one who speaksin tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receiveedifying. I Cor. 14:5Scripture tells us we all may prophesy. We are to desire to prophesyand seek after spiritual gifts as they are given for the common goodfor the body. Prophecy is not to be despised and it's to beweighed or evaluated.
